Review of Types of Organizations / Partnerships for Moving Forward
a. Stand Alone Non-Profit Organization 501(c) 3 or 6
b. Partnership with Other Fiscal Sponsors
- 501(ac)6 - Membership Association, Business Association, etc.
- 501(ac)3 - Charitable, churches, educational, where we could give deductions for donations, etc.
In order to qualify for these options, we would have to comply with the filing process, paperwork, etc.
Once we did that, we would then have to compete with other non-profit entities (over 1,000 in Hawaii) for available funding.
This usually entails us paying them a fee
Comments, Suggestions, Preferences?
c. Working Committee of Other Organization (like BIVB)
Big Island Visitor's Bureau already IS a non-profit corporation, and if we were to be under their umbrella (which was the original plan, and how HIWT originally began) we could help promote their objective, which is to bring wellness travel to the Big Island. We must strengthen our relationship with them, and demonstrate that we have the ability to respond as an organization with legitimacy, in order to continue to co-operate and enjoy mutual support with them.
d. Loose / General Association
In this option, we just have a networking group who meets or calls or emails as needs arise. People involved in the group could then pool their resources for projects, but it would be self-funded by those individuals. This type of association is good until you know what direction you want to go (in terms of formalizing your structure) but when you start to ask for outside help then you'll need to formalize your structure.
